North Kensington Fire Station
1985
Seemingly a classic piece of municipal hi-tech with hints of pomo abound. Credited to Dhiraj Dudhia for the GLC Department of Architecture and Civic Design. Something of an anomoly to the streetscape of Ladbroke Grove, which is most composed of terracewd housing. The bright red steel frame signals its use as a fire station and the profiled metal cladding in beige an overt nod to Grimshaw. The standard type drill tower was designed by Jake Brown, David Cook and Vincent Pilato in 1982 [1].
