Oriel College Senior Common Room
1971
Tucked away down a narrow alley, this is a tiny building that required an amount of reordering inside to forge the space from a tight site. Neatly contextual, but overtly modern, the take on the classic oriel window is cupped by the castellation of the perimeter wall of the College. The projecting windows are the principle outward feature. They are surrounded and capped by a smooth stone that contrasts against the ancient wall. From the inside, the windows frame views of the historic houses of Kybald Place.
